Glass Only, or the Whole Screen?
On the standard iPad, the touch glass is a separate layer from the display, so if the picture is fine, often only the glass needs replacing. On most iPad Air, iPad Pro and iPad mini models the glass and display are bonded into one part, and a crack means a whole new screen. The free check tells you which, and the price.
Signs to Look For
- Lines, dark blotches or flicker in the picture: the display itself is hurt, not only the glass
- Touch dead in a strip, or the iPad opening apps on its own
- It charges only at an angle, or not at all
- One edge of the screen lifting: that can be a swollen battery, so stop charging it and bring it in
What the Repair Involves
Tablet screens are held in with adhesive rather than screws. We warm the edges to soften the adhesive, lift the screen out and fit the new one with fresh adhesive. In an iPad the battery sits under the screen, so a new battery means lifting the screen first. That carries a small risk to the screen, more so on the thinnest models; ask us about it at the check.
Because of that extra work, tablets take longer than phones, and most are ready later the same day. When a part needs ordering, you'll hear how long it will take before you decide.

- Back up to iCloud or a computer, or to your Samsung or Google account, if it still turns on
- If the iPad is under Apple's warranty or AppleCare+, check with Apple first
